The Edge
created in 1998
by EdN.
The Edge is an ink pen doodle that took on a life of it's own.
Being the first of my doodles to be scanned to a computer, It was also the first of my works to be duplicated and printed.
As I was looking at the image on my computer I remembered that my photo program allowed me to flip and rotate images.
So, just for fun, I did. I saved the image in all of it's flips and rotations and printed them.
With the images laid out before me on the table, I realised that The Edge was a corner piece.
I attached the 3 new flipped and rotated images to the original with tape.
Suddenly a more elaborate and interesting image exploded before me.

This will give you the UPPER LEFT corner of the full image.
The second image to the left is The Edge flipped horizontally.
So that you can distinguish between the two images on this page , I have left a space between them.
If you print both images you will find they line up together very nicely.

This will give you the LOWER LEFT corner of the full image.
Once you've printed these images you will find that together these two images make an interesting new image.
Now the fun begins. To truly appreciate the full image though we still need the other two corners.

In order for you to get an idea of what the FULL IMAGE looks like, I have reduced the images and attached them together in a smaller format.

When I first attached thes images together I found that the full image could be attached to itself and continue to expand the possibilities.
Before I knew it I had every wall of my studio covered with different variations.

The last of the manipulations of this drawing was the realization that my image program also allowed me to invert the image.
