The most significant aspect of the
Dain Bread Company Picnic
is the Rock Concert.
Here's how I stitched it together.
Rock a former musician of some merit is called upon by Freak Samor a concert promoter. Samor's intent is to coax Rock out of retirement and to at least perform one more concert gig. Rock queries as to who he is to appear with since he no longer was associated with any particular band. Freak responds all of them. Apparently Freak not only wants to pull Rock out of retirement but wants to resurect several of the musicians and bands that Rock had been associated with over the years. Rock tells Freak if you can pull this off I'm game, shoot me.
First up will be Rock, Stork & Daryl. This would be no challenge. Rock, Stork & Daryl were the original acoustic act that brought them into the limelight and in spite of what had transpired since they have remained close friends to this day. One stumbling block though is that Daryl is having a good run with his band Warthog. Daryl however does agree to do the reunion as long as Warthog also gets to perform. Freak is ecstatic not only has he managed to put the first reunion together but he has also booked one of the hottest Heavy Metal acts that is soon to end it's Euro tour and return to the states.
Freak is soon dismayed though when he attempts to orchestrate the second reunion. Being a younger fellow Freak knows that the second act is what catapulted Rock and Daryl to their superstar status and would have also Stork if he had not chosen to stay in the background as a songwriter and not a performer. What Freak didn't know was why Justice Bleeding had disappeared from the scene. Justice Bleeding had ten #1 albums, one a year for ten years in a row yet they never had the #1 album of the year, always losing out to a pop, rap or rhythm and blues acts. Then they suddenly stopped.
The stumbling block to their reunion was the same as their reason for splitting up, Nigel Bic. Nigel despised Daryl. Many times Nigel had tried to persuade Rock to give Daryl the axe and never could understand why he wouldn't. This made Nigel more and more angry over the years but verytime Rock refused to consider it.
Freak begins to understand, what to him is a mystery, when Music journalist Scoops Pooper aproaches him for an interview about Rock's coming out of retirement. Scoops brings Freak up to date by bringing up an old tabloid back issue on the computer. There on the front cover is Nigel throttling Daryl and the arm trying to separate them belongs to Rock. Freak reads the article and finds out Nigel had accused Daryll of being a talentless piece of crap that rode Rock's coattails. Nigel then goes on to say that Daryl must be sucking Rock's dic and that's the only reason he's in the band.
The article then states that Daryl did not acknowledge Nigel but instead left. The photo on the cover was taken when Nigel raced out after Daryll. It was reported that Nigel ran out of the building screaming "hey mother fucker don't you walk away from me when I'm talking to you". The next thing you know Nigel begins choking Daryl and Rock intervenes to separate them. What is not seen in the photo is that after Rock separates them, Daryll grabs a length of chain out of a nearby pick up truck and catches Nigel solidly across the back knocking him over. As Nigel falls to the ground he hits his head on a rock and is knocked unconcious. Charges were pressed and since Daryll used a chain he was sentenced to prison for six months for assault with a deadly weapon. That's when Justice Bleeding disappeared.
Freak now is perplexed as to why Rock agreed to the reunion plans in spite of this. Rock explains that Nigel is a manic depressive and that he and Daryl understood this and held no grudge. When querried by Freak, Daryl's only comment is Nigel was a bit drunk that night and he himself had acted like a fool by picking up the chain. Rock then explains to Freak that he chose to accept the reunion offer because many years had passed and he felt Nigel might have let go of the grudge now that he was having such great success with Bic, Clips and Phillips thanks to Storks songwriting. Unfortunately that was not the case. With a bit of coaxing Freak manages to get Nigel to agree but first Nigel requires that Freak agree to these provisions and quarantees.
1. He will not appear at any time on the same stage with Daryl.
2. Bic, Clips and Phillips must be the opening act.
3. Two scantily clad females must appear along side of him in any promotional photos taken at the event.
4. Bic, Clips and Phillips must have a private dressing room at least 1500 feet away from Daryl's.
5. 3 lbs of M&M's orange only and 2 gallons of Horchada in his dressing room.
Freak agrees to most of the deal immediately with one exception, that Bic Clips and Phillips be the opening act. This is a position that Freak strongly holds for his own band Consious Pilate but no one knows that. All that Rock has been told is that Freak had a band that would warm up the crowd a little before the main event.
In reality Freak has concocted the whole reunion thing as a vehicle to give his band exposure. He figured by headlining them and putting them on the same bill with these fprmer super acts he would catapult himself to star status. Freak's band Consious Pilate is virtually unknown. The concert event will be their first public appearance and the release of their first album.
Nigel remains adamant and no deal is signed. Freak however, a shrewd P.R. man begins to begin putting out press releases heralding the superstar reunion but Nigel nor Bic, Clips and Phillips are mentioned. The tabloids are made aware that Nigel Bic has been excluded from the bill and rumors begin to stir again about what had broken up Justice Bleeding in the first place. Freak makes sure the press makes it look as though Nigel was the problem (which he was) rather than Daryl as had been reported in years past.
Nigel becomes furious calling it all it a pack of lies. He even denies that he was refusing to perform and declares that he and BCP would be one of the opening acts. He immediately calls Freak and agrees to perform any where on the bill as long as all the other provisions were met. Freak Agrees.
Ok let me recap. Freak aproaches Rock about a reunion concert and all the pieces have been put into place. Consious Pilate opens followed by Bic, Clips and Phillips then Rock, Stork & Daryl, Followed by Warthog and the closing feature act is the reunion of Justice Bleeding.
